NORWALK, Conn. — The first Chick-fil-A in Norwalk doesn’t open until Thursday, but that didn’t stop the line from beginning to form before dawn on Wednesday for the grand opening.

About 20 people arrived at the restaurant at 467 Connecticut Ave. early Wednesday morning.

The Chick-Fil-A fans are all hoping to secure their spot among the first 100 eligible guests through the door Thursday morning and win free food for a year.

"Early arrivers came prepared with tents, computers, air mattresses, games and chairs to pass the time," said a spokeswoman. "Chick-fil-A provides security, entertainment, games and, of course, plenty of fresh Chick-fil-A throughout the parking lot party as the countdown to the opening continues."

Chick-fil-A will be registering participants in the campout until they reach 100 people age 18 and older with ID living in specific zip codes surrounding the restaurant. ( Click here for the rules.)

Prizes will be awarded shortly before 6 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 19. And the restaurant will then open for business at 6:30 a.m. Thursday.

First-day customers are invited to participate in a children’s book drive to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Stamford. New and gently used books can be dropped off at the new location at 467 Connecticut Ave. in Norwalk between 6:30 a.m. and 10 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 19.

The donated books will be placed in a nearly three-foot Book House, built from reclaimed wood, to serve as a free library exchange.
