DANBURY, Conn. -- When it comes time to clean the snow, the Danbury Fair mall brings in the experts.
And after an overnight storm began dumping about a half-foot of snow across the massive parking lots, crews were out working to clean the area and make it safe for shoppers.
Homeowners would be jealous of the snow-clearing power at the mall: four payloaders and four plow and sanders are put to work after each storm, according to Melissa Eigen, senior marketing manager for the Danbury Fair mall.
How long does it take to clean the acreage? "It depends on the storm," said Eigen. "This one lasted so long. It started at 8 p.m., and they worked through the worked all day as it continued to snow."
The mall has more than one crew for the around-the- clock work, she said.
The trucks plow the snow into gigantic piles, which the payloaders then move to the edges of the property, beyond the parking lots, creating huge man-made snow mountains.
"The piles get rather large throughout the season," Eigen said.
