The 750 kW Bloom Energy fuel cell project will provide the 1.3 million-square-foot mall with clean, reliable energy while reducing the carbon emissions of the facility by nearly 3 million pounds each year.
The fuel cells were installed in June in Service Court 6 next to Red Robin and Lord & Taylor near the parking lots at the back of the mall.
“The state of Connecticut has been a strong proponent of clean energy, and with 18 Bloom Energy projects installed or underway, we are excited to contribute to the state’s ambitious energy goals,” Bill Kurtz, chief financial officer of Bloom Energy, said of the project.
Bloom Energy is a provider of breakthrough solid oxide fuel cell technology generating clean, highly efficient on-site power from multiple fuel sources. The company, founded in 2001, is headquartered in Sunnyvale, Calif.
“A key strategy for Washington Gas Energy Systems is the continued investment in clean energy throughout Connecticut, and the Danbury Fair is the latest project in which we have played an important role,” said Sanjiv Mahan, vice president of business development for Washington Gas Energy Systems. “We are proud to partner on another successful endeavor with Bloom Energy, as we continue to invest in clean energy solutions as part of our expanding diversified energy portfolio.”
