DANBURY, Conn. — Two Radio Shack stores in Fairfield County will be closing their doors soon as the company shuts down over 550 locations as part of its most recent bankruptcy plans.

The two area locations set to close are located at:

  • 1 Padanaram Road, in the North Street Shopping Center, Danbury; and
  • 2071 Black Rock Turnpike, Fairfield.

The company has filed for bankruptcy under Chapter 11 and is planning to close a third of its stores nationwide. As of now, the other stores in Fairfield County are expected to remain open.

The company's loss can be the consumer's gain. Most of the items in the stores that are closing are on sale, with discounts of 60 percent to 90 percent.

The Danbury and Fairfield stores are expected to close at the end of March.

Other stores set to close in Connecticut are located in New Milford, New London, Wallingford, West Hartford, New Britain, Bloomfield and Hartford.

Radio Shack is a national retailer of personal and home technology products and services.

Founded in 1921, RadioShack is owned by General Wireless Operations Inc., which acquired the storied brand in April 2015 as part of an earlier bankruptcy filing.
