Founded in California in 1965 as a small mail-order veterinary supply business with only five employees, Petco is now the largest pet specialty retail chain the United States, with more than 1,150 stores nationwide.

In Danbury, four-footed friends won’t be alone in celebrating the opening of the pet food and supply superstore, which offers more than 10,000 products for dogs, cats, fish, reptiles, amphibians, birds and small animals.

Opening festivities will last throughout the weekend and include pet adoptions, giveaways and discounts. The new Danbury Petco will also offer local pet parents everything from daily necessities – from cat litter and poop-scoop management tools – to a variety of high-quality food options, such as natural, organic and raw food selections.

In addition, Petco will host pet adoption events throughout the year to help local rescue groups and shelters find homes for animals in need. Additionally, it will host monthly events such as “Reptile Rally” and “Meet the Critters,” which are free, interactive educational forums for pet owners.

Companion animals will be available for adoption throughout the weekend, and all new pet parents can receive the “Think Adoption First Care and Savings” booklet, which contains discounts for supplies and services. To receive the booklet, new pet parents can bring a proof of adoption to the new Danbury Petco location, at 5-B Sugar Hollow Road, across from Danbury Fair mall.
