Kevin Paige, owner of the tobacco shop located on Padanaram Road, said he offers more than just a wide selection, though. The shop is also a place for cigar aficionados to relax while puffing away.
“They get a chance to try new products and socialize with each other,” Paige said. “There’s something about cigars that brings people down to the same level.”
Butthead’s is one of the top 50 cigar retailers in the country, said Paige, who has been in the tobacco business for 13 years. Aside from the selection of cigars, Butthead’s also draws in customers with unique events that are broadcast live online through the shop’s website, including one that featured live animals for a game of “Barnyard Bingo.”
“I’m just always thinking about different, out-of-the-box ideas,” Paige said.
Butthead’s boasts more than 120,000 individual cigars for sale, 2,500 open boxes for customers to browse and a selection of lighters, cutters and humidors at its Danbury location, according to Paige. There are also locations in New Milford and Newtown.
Most cigar shops have walk-in humidors to preserve the integrity of cigars, but Butthead’s entire store is one big 6,000-square-foot humidor, powered by two humidifiers that keep the shop at an ideal 70 percent humidity all day, everyday, Paige said. Proper storage is the key to a good cigar, said Peter Glad, the store's social media manager.
“Like scotch, a properly store cigar actually gets better with age,” he said.
The shop also connects with customers online through Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and a blog, which has more than 1.5 million views, Glad said.
“We pride ourselves on being tobacconists,” Glad said. “If you ever have an issue with any tobacco products, you can bring it in here and we’ll help.”
Butthead’s is open 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
