Owner Dawn Sheppard opened her shop in 2008 out of a desire to share her love of vintage jewelry. And this summer, she moved from Federal Road to a larger location at 2 Sand Cut Road.
“I really love selling jewelry, and especially love making someone happy by selling them the perfect piece,” Sheppard said.
She has been buying vintage jewelry since starting her business. What Sheppard enjoys the most is learning the history of each piece she buys. She also buys fine jewelry, including silver and gold, but mostly concentrates on costume pieces.
To find the perfect jewelry for her store, she sometimes travels to other countries for sales. “I have been to Paris, Spain, all over the United States, Prague, Mexico — so far!” Sheppard said.
She recently moved to a new and larger location to accommodate her 30,000 pieces of jewelry. Sheppard also worked on her website, with plans to soon be able to sell jewelry from there, too. But the store is something special to experience in person.
“Walking through the store should feel like walking through time. We have jewelry from the mid-1800s, Victorian, Edwardian, Art Deco, art nouveau, mourning jewelry, early Czech jewelry, unusual pieces from the '40s through the '80s. It's just a unique and fun place to spend some time,” Sheppard said.
In the past, she has done shows in New York City; Brimfield, Mass.; and upstate New York. Sometimes at the store, Sheppard will host parties, depending on the holiday and the occasion. The next party will be on Halloween.
“Our jewelry is priced low, so anyone can find a beautiful piece of art to wear,” Sheppard added.
