Signs posted at the Shops At Marcus Dairy, located just across Backus Avenue from the mall, announce that the new EMS will open in early April in a new larger location there.
The new location will feature an expanded assortment of items as well as enhanced services, a sign said.
EMS, based in Peterborough, N.H., sells outdoor gear and apparel. It has 68 stores nationwide and 11 outdoor adventure schools.
The new store in Danbury will also offer rentals of kayaks, packs, sleeping bags, snowshoes and tents. One of the biggest competitors to EMS is the L.L. Bean store, which opened last summer at the Danbury Fair Mall.
Panera was the first store to open in the shopping plaza when it welcomed customers in December. It has since been joined by a Petco and Sleep Number bedding store. Whole Foods is scheduled to open later this spring and sport 38,000 square feet of retail space.
The shopping center had been planned for more than four years before the old Marcus Dairy Bar was torn down in June 2011, marking the start of construction.
