Pi Day is celebrated every March 14 (3/14) around the world. Pi (Greek letter “π”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, which is approximately 3.1415.

This year, Pi Day will mark the first 3/14/15 configuration since March 14, 1915. To learn more about Pi Day, visit www.piday.org.

At the award-winning Norwalk pie shop, owner Michele Albano said National Pi Day is always the busier of the two days. “Because it’s more well-known,” Albano said in an interview earlier this year.

Michele’s Pies, which opened its doors in Norwalk in 2007, has been featured on “Throwdown with Bobby Flay,” the “Today” show and in The New York Times.

As part of Pi Day, Michele's Pies is holding a free pie giveaway contest.

All you have to do is take picture with a slice of her pie (or a whole pie) and post it on Facebook or Instagram, tagging the picture @michelespiesllc and using the hashtag #Michelespies.

The winner will be chosen March 15. Post all photos by 10 a.m. that day. The winner will be contacted via the the social media the entry was posted on. The free pie will be one 5-inch pie of the winner's choice.

Michele’s Pies is at 666 Main Ave. in Norwalk (near the Wilton border) and is open from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
