After some fears that the packaging and manufacturing giant would leave the city or even the state after selling its headquarters, Pitney Bowes announced in November that it would remain committed to Stamford and added 200 new jobs.

The building at 3001 Stamford Square consists of 290,000 square feet of space on seven floors with four levels of underground parking. It is managed by the Ashforth Co. Pitney Bowes will be occupying 74,000 square feet of office space on the top two floors of the building. The company is expected to move in by late summer.

“We are thrilled that, after an extensive search, Pitney Bowes has selected our 3001 Stamford Square property as its new global headquarters. Their choice validates our dramatic renovation and property rebranding effort, which we hoped would attract outstanding companies such as Pitney Bowes to our building,” said Darrell Harvey, co-CEO of The Ashforth Co.

Pitney Bowes has an existing workforce of 1,600 employees in the state, with its technology center in Danbury, its business operations center in Shelton and its new headquarters. About 550 people currently work in the Stamford headquarters, which Pitney Bowes sold because the building was too large and inefficient for its needs.

The state Department of Economic and Community Development reached a deal with Pitney Bowes under the state’s “First Five” program. That will provide the company with a $15 million loan, of which $10 million is forgivable following the creation of the 200 new jobs over the next five years.

Pitney Bowes joins current 3001 Stamford Square tenants KPMG, Genworth and Navigators. About 125,000 square feet of space is still available for lease, according to a release from the Ashforth Co.

Ashforth completed a multimillion-dollar renovation of 3001 Stamford Square at the end of 2012.

“The repositioning of our property addresses the needs and changing working environment sought by growing companies today," said Andrew Ashforth, co-CEO of Ashforth and CEO of A.P. Construction Co., which performed the renovations. "Our new expansive lobby and adjoining café with outdoor seating provides additional areas for congregating and for work, and our state-of-the-art new fitness facility adds to the overall healthy work environment.”

Designed by Roger Ferris + Partners of Westport, the improvements designed to LEED standards include a new modern lobby, state-of-the-art elevators, new bathrooms and tenant common areas, a new environmentally friendly and energy efficient HVAC system, enhanced landscaping, new property identity and directional signs, and facade enhancements.

Amenities include private shuttle service to and from the Stamford Train Station are a full-service café, a modern, state-of-the-art fitness facility and an electric vehicle charging station.
