7th Annual Hassiak Memorial Turkey Trot Scheduled in Danbury

DANBURY, Conn. --  The seventh annual Officer Donald J. Hassiak Memorial Turkey Trot will take place on Thanksgiving Day at Tarrywile Park in Danbury.

The event will benefit the Officer Donald J. Hassiak Memorial Immaculate Scholarship fund, which will help new and existing Immaculate High School students.

This 5K cross-country run /1.5 mile walk will be start at 8:30 a.m. Registration will be from 7 - 8 a.m.

The registration fee is $25 and $30 for walk-ins. The family cap fee is $100. For registration and/or sponsorship information, visit http://www.immaculatehs.org/turkeytrot.

Those who are unable to attend but would like to support the memorial scholarship fund may send donations to the following address: Immaculate High School, Donald J. Hassiak, Memorial Scholarship Fund 73 Southern Boulevard, Danbury, CT 06810.

The Turkey Trot was originated in 2007 by coach Brian Hayes and the cross-country teams as a way to honor the passing of a favorite Immaculate High teacher, David Couch.

The Couch family eventually set up their own scholarship and Hayes, a Danbury police officer, turned to the Hassiak family and requested that the Turkey Trot now be named in honor of Immaculate High School alumnus Donald J. Hassiak '87, a fallen Danbury police officer.

Tarrywile Park is at 70 Southern Blvd., Danbury. The park is directly across the street from Immaculate High School.
