Artists Join 'Accessible Art' Exhibit In Danbury

DANBURY, Conn. -- Artists Elisabeth Levy of Bethel, John Longobricco of Danbury and Chris Plaisted of New Milford will join art students in the regional YMCA's ESCAPE to the Arts to reveal their "visual songs" as the seventh yearlong, multisite series "Accessible Art" continues.

The exhibit will open Monday, June 15, and run through Thursday, Aug. 16. Sponsored by the Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut, the exhibition is presented in both public and private venues, providing opportunities for artists to show work in alternative spaces and to make art more accessible to the general public.

"'Accessible Art' is also a way for business leaders to leverage creative talent to promote economic development and bring life to downtown communities," says Executive Director Lisa Scails, She notes that "Accessible Art" has presented almost 100 local and regional visual artists since its inception.

Here are the times and places for the exhibits. Times at venues can vary. All exhibitions are subject to change.

Elisabeth J. Levy photography exhibition No. 1 at Portofino's Restaurant & Wine Bar, 213 Greenwood Ave., Bethel, 203-797-8131. Reception: Saturday, June 20, noon-3 p.m. Known for her luminous yet intimate images of the Natural World, Levy has turned her camera towards a local treasure, Candlewood Lake, www.ejLphoto.com. Exhibition No. 2 at Danbury Public Library, 170 Main St., 203-797-4505. Levy's ode to The Big Island, "Mahalo Hawaii," is the title of this body of work because of the gratitude the artist says she feels towards this extraordinary place. "
John Longobricco paintings at CityCenter Danbury, 268 Main St., 203-792-1711. Longobricco writes: "I am an active Danbury senior citizen. Besides doing a lot of local volunteer work, art is my passion. It is an honor to be included in the Accessible Art series in my favorite city."
Chris Plaisted's sculpture and paintings at YMCA's ESCAPE to the Arts, 293 Main St., Danbury, 203-794-1413 Reception: Friday, June 19, 6-8 p.m. Plaisted's exhibition, “alloy & abstraction,” will feature a range of sculpture, drawings and paintings, each focusing on forms of contrast: whether in the concept such as man vs. nature or social vs. emotional, or in the tension created by the use of materials.
