The "Best Darn Jazz Club in Danbury" features monthly jazz in the Colonial Corner, formerly the Downstairs Cafe and Snack Bar, in the Student Center on the university's Midtown campus.

Saxophonist Josh Walker will open the show then  featured act, The Recess Bureau, will perform.

The band was created in 2015 by WestConn alumnus, bassist and band leader Jeff Moro. The collective of 10 members "explores the possibilities of jazz improvisation with an array of grooves inspired by many genres of music," said a release.

The collective of 10 members takes musical influences from Snarky Puppy, A Tribe Called Quest, James Brown and Led Zeppelin.

The band blends jazz improvisation with different grooves, compositional styles and lyrical melodies, jazz, rock, funk and fusion.

The jazz club started as a way to showcase student talent at the university and build bridges between the school and community, said . Walter Cramer, dean of students.

“The whole point initially was to create a place where we can have our students perform, then it expanded to alumni,” he said.

That evening there will be complimentary snack food and a cash bar for those 21 and over.

Admission is free for WestConn faculty, staff, students and alumni only; otherwise there is a $5 cover for the general public.

The show begins at 8 p.m. The Midtown campus is at 181 White St., Danbury.
