Concerts On The Green Return To Danbury With Summer Series

DANBURY, Conn. -- The largest free summer concert series in the Northeast returns to Danbury with a loaded music and food lineup and a chance to scavenge your way to prizes.

Union Savings Bank presents Concerts on the Green, beginning Friday and running through Aug. 29 at CityCenter Danbury, 186 Main St. Performances begin at 7:15 p.m. with headliners taking the band shell stage at 8 p.m.

Event officials will pick concertgoers wearing unique hats from the crowd as part of its Saturday Scavenger program and give them opportunities to win prizes from downtown donors such as Palace Danbury, Danbury Museum and Historical Society, and Danbury Farmers Market to name a few.

The summer series begins Friday with the Way-Back Machine, which celebrates music of the '60s and '70s, covering artists from The Beatles to Bad Company.

Whiskey and Rye Productions presents The Country Rock Show on Saturday. The theatrical production company specializes in live country music with a focus on dance and crowd participation. The Trolls will open the evening.

Conroy Warren and Coastal Zone bring their Afro-Caribbean based “Music Pepper Pot” to the band shell on Friday, July 17.

The Bacon and Brew Fest will take place from 3-9 p.m. Saturday, July 18. Bacon and beer lovers have the opportunity to taste local cuisine while enjoying music, interactive games and cooking demonstrations. Tickets range from $15-20. On Friday, July 24, New York’s future-soul musician Mad Satta will bring his eight-piece ensemble and edgy bass lines and sophisticated sound to the band shell.

Newton, Conn.’s, Alternate Universe will rock Danbury on Saturday, July 25, with original compositions and covers of contemporary artists from Bruno Mars to Led Zeppelin.

The month’s music series wraps up on Friday, July 31, with the Mighty Ploughboys. The Danbury-based classic rock five-piece infuses traditional Irish music to create its unique sound.

Music acts are sponsored by Starry Sky Studio. There is a suggested donation of $2 per person and $5 per family. Parking is available adjacent to the Green at the Patriot Garage, 21 Delay St., and the Bardo Garage, 10 Library Place.
