DANBURY, Conn. -- Business and community leaders from the Danbury area will “do a little time and a lot of good” to help save and improve the lives of people fighting muscular dystrophy and related life-threatening diseases at the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s Lock-Up fundraising event on Thursday, March 24.

Participants, also known as “jailbirds,” will be locked up for one hour as they attempt to raise “bail” by encouraging friends, family, and co-workers to make a contribution to directly benefit MDA families.

The event gets underway at 10 a.m. at the Market Place Kitchen and Bar, 33 Mill Plain Road.

MDA’s Lock-Up theme symbolizes the decreased mobility and independence people living with muscle disease experience when their muscles stop working. Lock-Up participants are “locked up” for one hour, but for the people MDA serves, the loss of mobility — and the limitations on freedom and independence that it can cause — are for life.

The money raised helps MDA create a world free from the harmful effects of neuromuscular disease. Dollars raised also help support MDA’s life-enhancing programs such as state-of-the-art support groups and clinics, including the MDA Clinic at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven and the Hospital for Special Care in New Britain.

They also make MDA summer camp possible so kids with muscle disease can enjoy “the best week of the year” at the Channel 3 Kids Camp in Andover.
