At the event, Western Connecticut Home Care Inc. will offer flu shots for those 5 and older who have not yet been vaccinated.

The cost for flu shots is covered by most insurance companies; participants must bring insurance cards. The cost for flu shots for those without insurance is $35 and up, depending on vaccine type.

Vaccine types that will be offered include preservative-free, FluMist and high-dose (for those over 65). In addition to blood pressure screenings and flu shots, physicians and staff from the hospitals will provide safety tips, injury prevention advice, coping with anxiety and depression, and information on high blood pressure, cholesterol, heart disease, exercise, Lyme disease, joint pain, the network’s clinical trials program and other health topics.

As a special highlight of the event, the Norwalk Hospital Emergency Medical Services team will provide tours of the ambulance for children. The ambulance will be parked outside the YMCA, where the EMS professionals will answer questions, provide information on hands-only CPR, phoning 911 in an emergency and preventing traumatic brain injury in children.

In addition, a resource table at the event will feature programs offered to the community by the three hospitals as a public service, such as support groups and wellness programs.
