“I’ll Be Seeing You,” The Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” and “I’ll Walk Alone” are among the many love songs that were exceptionally popular during World War II.

Why were they so popular? Who wrote, played, and sang them?

Professor Diane Cypkin from Pace University will present a one-woman concert/lecture to talk about the vital role music made in people's morale, both on the home front and the battlefront.

The program is free but registration is encouraged.

The library also will host free chess tournaments from 5-6 p.m. Thursdays, Oct. 15 and 22. The tournaments are for all ages and levels. The number of games played will be determined by the number of participants. The room capacity is 30 players. Trophies will be awarded for first-, second- and third-place winners. Players who have a clock and/or a chess set are asked to bring them along.
