DANBURY, Conn. -- The Danbury Museum and Historical Society is teaming with the Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut to present an exhibit entitled, "Collections, Community and Conversation."

Starting on Saturday, Jan. 18, the exhibit cases in Huntington Hall will be filled with a wealth of interesting objects gleaned from the collections of individuals from the greater Danbury area.

Catherine Vanaria, professor of photography at Western Connecticut State University, is the guest curator. She is also president and co-owner of Connecticut Photographics Inc., a professional photographic and digital lab in Danbury.

"With the increase in digital archiving and presentation, physical objects, documents and artifacts are slowly being forgotten,” said Vanaria in a release. “By exploring the artifacts hidden in collections of both museum and personal archives, we re-ignite personal connections to our own history that these objects trigger and, at the same time, spark creativity through conversations about them."

On display will be an eclectic mix of objects including sewing machines, turn-of-the-century postcards, milk glass, colonial apothecary items, vintage toys, dolls and more.

The exhibit will be open to the public Wednesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Collections will be on display through March.

The museum will also be hosting several roundtable discussions and will sponsor an educational program, 'How to Start a Collection' and 'Preserving Treasured Photographs,' presented by Catherine Vanaria on March 15.

A schedule of events and additional information will be available on the museum website.
