First up is the Western Connecticut State University's Department of Theatre Arts production of “Alice in Wonderland” at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, July 6, and 2 p.m. Sunday, July 7. It follows the classic children’s tale with an experimental twist and special focus on movement. Coloring activities and face painting will be available at the matinee performances. Those who arrive in Alice costumes will receive an autographed “Alice in Wonderland” poster. Tickets will be $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and children 16 and under, and $40 for a Family Four-Pack (plus fees) and are available online. In this intimate performance, the audience sits on the stage under the Ives gazebo.
At 9 p.m. Saturday, July 6, “War Stars: An Unauthorized Parody” will be presented. Written, directed and performed by John Stegmaier, this parody goes to the far ends of another galaxy. There are no set or props, just lights and one man telling the story, living the battles, finding the robots and learning the ways of some mysterious force that binds the galaxy together. Admission will be free for guests holding a ticket for the 7 p.m. performance of “Alice in Wonderland.” Tickets for just the “War Stars” performance will be $10 plus fees and are available online. The audience sits on the stage under the Ives gazebo.
Returning to the Ives stage for the second consecutive year will be the Golden Dragon Acrobats from China at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, July 14. The Golden Dragon Acrobats represent a time-honored tradition that began more than 25 centuries ago. The troupe combines award-winning acrobatics, traditional dancing, ancient and contemporary music, and theatrical techniques to present a show of breathtaking skill and spellbinding beauty. General admission tickets are $25 for adults, $15 for seniors and children 12 and under, and $50 for a Family Four-Pack (plus fees) and are available online. Gates will open at 6:30 p.m. and there will be two one-hour sets with an intermission.
Also back by popular demand is the Connecticut Ballet Summer Dance Caravan on Friday, July 26. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. A ballroom dance class will be offered 6 p.m. by John Vitti of Vitti’s Dance Studio. At 7 p.m., Connecticut Ballet’s dancers will perform classical and contemporary duets narrated and produced by Artistic Director Brett Raphael. A “Meet & Greet” dance party reception will follow at 9 p.m. Admission is free; donations will be accepted at the venue.
