Uniondale resident Shavon Goins, 27, has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison after being convicted of murder for a March 2018 stabbing that left his rival dead.
Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas said that at approximately 8:15 p.m. on March 23, 2018, Goins threatened to kill Ravino Bailey, 23, in front of a Dartmouth Street home in Hempstead.
Singas said that Goins chased Bailey, who was a romantic rival, around a car and ultimately off the street.
The following morning, at 1:44 a.m. on March 24, 2018, Bailey was in the same Dartmouth Street home when Goins forced himself into the building by kicking in the door. Singas said that Goins then stabbed Bailey twice, through the right arm and heart with a kitchen knife.
Bailey stumbled out of the house and was transported to an area hospital. He died within an hour.
Singas said that Goins fled to Montgomery, Alabama, and was apprehended by members of the Nassau County Police Department, the U.S. Marshals Service, and Montgomery Police Department on April 10, 2018.
Goins was convicted in December last year of second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
“Shavon Goins got into an altercation with Ravino Bailey and five hours later, returned to the same house to senselessly murder his romantic rival,” Singas said.
“After stabbing the victim twice, Goins fled to Alabama and was tracked down due to great detective work from the Nassau County Police Department. We hope that today’s conviction brings some measure of closure to Ravino Bailey’s family.”
