'In My Shoes:' Actors Share Stories Of Fate, Freedom At Danbury's WestConn

DANBURY, Conn. -- “In My Shoes,” a provocative look at the personal stories of women who have been in prison, will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury.

“In My Shoes” explores choices, the twists of fate that lead to prison, and the journey back to freedom through movement, spoken word, and song.

Presented by the Judy Dworin Performance Project, it is told with compassion and clarity by six women who have re-entered Connecticut communities from York Correctional Institution.

A post-performance talk with the performers and Dworin will invite audience questions and a discussion of criminal and social justice, strengths-based intervention programs in penitentiaries, and the role of the arts as agents of change.

The performance will take place in the Ives Concert Hall in White Hall at the university’s midtown campus, 181 White St., Danbury.

In the event of bad weather, the performance will be moved to Wednesday, Nov. 4.

This performance is funded by grants from the New England Foundation for the Arts and Western’s Ancell School of Business.
