Pelham Pastry Chef Gives Thanksgiving Dessert Tips

The Daily Pelham will be bringing you tips and ideas to add flavor and variety to your Thanksgiving dinner in the days leading up to the holiday on Thursday. Today’s focus is the side dishes.

PELHAM, N.Y. – Nannette Conners owns Provisions Café and Bake Shop on Wolfs Lane and has baked pies and other desserts for weeks to fill customers’ orders. She took time Wednesday to offer some tips for those preparing their own desserts for Thanksgiving.

For those making their own pecan pies, Conners suggested adding bourbon to the mixture to add flavor to the pie. She said the liquor blends well with the ingredients in the pie. The pastry chef also suggested flavoring whipped cream with vanilla and sugar.

Conners said cooks can easily make their own cranberry sauce by combining fresh cranberries, sugar and port wine together.

Finally, Conners suggested using cupcakes as place cards at the table setting to add a unique flair to the Thanksgiving presentation.

Conners said she makes desserts at her home similar to the ones she makes at Provisions. She added that she prepares relatively standard desserts for Thanksgiving and that her children are "rooted in tradition."
