Manhattan Transfer released its first recording 40 years ago and has been inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. The group has released 29 albums and 19 singles and recorded with artists such as Tony Bennett, Smokey Robinson, Bette Midler and more.
With 10 Dove Awards, a Soul Train Award and 10 Grammys, Take 6 is the most awarded a cappella group. Take 6's blend of jazz, R&B, pop and gospel has achieved multi-platinum sales and received praises from artists such as Stevie Wonder, Brian Wilson and Ray Charles.
Before the concert, The Klein will hold a dinner to raise funds for After School at the Klein (ASK). ASK provides instruction in dance, music, drama and acting to over 100 Bridgeport students tuition-free.
At a preconcert dinner for 240 invited donors in a tent outside the theater, The Klein will bestow the second annual Jacob Klein Leader of Distinction Award to all nine Carroll siblings, a prominent Bridgeport family of business and civic leaders: Charles, Frank, Jr., Robert, Jim, Larry, Peter, William, Patricia Vozzo and Eileen Valko.
“We’re delighted to welcome V2 Concert Promotion to the Klein and to have this opportunity to honor the entire Carroll family with this award, which recognizes their lifetimes of service to the Bridgeport community," said Laurence A. Caso, executive director at The Klein. "And it is most fitting that we do so just prior to a concert by two of America’s most respected singing groups, Manhattan Transfer and Take 6. Both entertain with a highly charged fusion of unique vocals and styles.”
The concert will be filmed for a future broadcast and video release. It is the third event in the Klein 75 series, which commemorates the 75th anniversary of the venue.
