"It's fun and not scary," said Brianna, who came to the carnival with her sister, Emily, who is 9, as well as a few friends.
"You spin around a bunch of times and you get stuck to the wall. It's so fast," she said.
The New Fairfield Lions Club's Old Tyme Carnival is open from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. every evening through Saturday. The food tent opens at 6 p.m. Admission is free. Wristbands for unlimited rides are $25.
The carnival features rides by Stewart Amusement and live music from local bands.
The town of New Fairfield has held the carnival for over 30 years.
According to Marvin Nash of the New Fairfield Lions Club, the carnival used to be called the Fireman's Carnival. "People would come here with their fire trucks from surrounding towns in Connecticut and New York. They used to have big parade here," he said.
Doug Dorsey, past president of the Lion's Club, said the carnival is the club's primary fundraiser for the year. "Every dollar we make we pump right back into the town," he said.
Dawn Wiltse, mother of 7-year-old Jeremy, said her son comes to the carnival for the games. "He likes using the water gun and playing any game that involves water," she said.
Jeremy said he hoped to win the biggest prize at the carnival, which is a giant stuffed bumblebee.
For Scott Logue of Tustin, Calif., the New Fairfield Carnival is a trip down memory lane. He grew up in town and is back here visiting his parents -- along with his wife, Nooshen, and their 4-year-old daughter, Charlotte.
"I graduated New Fairfield High School in the class of '91," he said, recalling trips to Kent Falls, Squantz Pond and New York City, taking the train out of Brewster.
"I came to this carnival every other year as a kid. My favorite rides were the Ferris wheel, the scrambler and the fun house," Logue recalled.
15-year-old Alek Sey of New Fairfield said he has been coming to the carnival every year since he was 5. "It's tradition," he said.
"I try and go on all the rides. My favorite is the new ride where you're in a cage and you are spinning around," he said. "You get dizzy, but it's fun."
