AAA Northeast at the Playhouse: Live in HD presents this classic, directed by Josie Rourke. The cast includes Elaine Cassidy, Janet McTeer and Dominic West.

In 1782, Choderlos de Laclos’ novel of sex, intrigue and betrayal in pre-revolutionary France scandalized the world. Over 200 years later, Christopher Hampton’s irresistible adaptation swept the board, winning the Olivier and Evening Standard Awards for Best Play. Josie Rourke’s revival now marks the play’s 30- year anniversary.

Former lovers, the Marquise de Merteuil and Vicomte de Valmont now compete in games of seduction and revenge. Merteuil incites Valmont to corrupt the innocent Cecile de Volanges before her wedding night but Valmont has targeted the peerlessly virtuous and beautiful Madame de Tourvel. While these merciless aristocrats toy with others’ hearts and reputations, their own may prove more fragile than they supposed.

This season’s National Theater in HD performances also includes an encore screening of "As You Like It," Shakespeare’s glorious comedy of love and change, with Rosalie Craig as Rosalind on February 28, at 5 p.m.

The AAA Northeast at The Playhouse: Live in HD series is underwritten by Jeanne Cook, Anita and Nicholas Donofrio, Liz and Steven Goldstone, Sabina and Walter Slavin, with support from The Ridgefield Press and Whistle Stop Bakery.

The screening will begin at 2 p.m., and the event's media sponsor is WSHU.

Tickets are $25, $20 for members or seniors, $15 for students, and free for those 18 and under. For tickets call or visit the box office, 203-438-5795, or buy them online.
