“As an active member in this community, The Westchester provides an ideal backdrop for raising awareness and encouraging support in finding a cure for breast cancer, a disease we know affects many of our employees, retailers and shoppers every year,” said Paula Kelliher, area director of mall marketing for The Westchester, which is owned and operated by Simon Property Group.

Events throughout the month include free bags of pink cotton candy to guests who donate to the fund; a pink-themed painting by local artist David Tobey will be on display and auctioned at the end of October to the highest bidder; a health and wellness event from noon to 5 p.m. Oct. 10, and other events.

Visitors to the wellness event will receive healthy living tips and insight from participating local organizations, including the Susan G. Komen Greater NYC affiliate, mini massages, health evaluations, blood pressure screenings, fitness dance demos, presentation about hypnosis as a stop smoking method and weight loss aid, healthy meal preparation and nutritional facts, breast cancer awareness, alternative medicine and more. A disc jockey will provide musical entertainment throughout the afternoon.

In addition, the center will be surprising randomly selected shoppers throughout the month with ‘Mission Pink’ treats as they shop. The center said that with the help of customers, they will guarantee a contribution of at least $250,000 to the fund.

“We are delighted to be working with the dedicated people at Simon,” said Dr. Judy Salerno, Komen president and chief executive officer. “With one case of breast cancer diagnosed every two minutes in the U.S., programs like Simon’s ‘Mission Pink’ play a key role in bringing our mission to people in communities across the country. The support of Simon and their customers will help us fund research, provide support to women, men and families suffering from breast cancer, and move toward a world with no breast cancer.”
