Two Commencement Ceremonies Top Upcoming Events At Danbury's WestConn

DANBURY, Conn. -- Two commencement ceremonies highlight upcoming events at Western Connecticut State University.

The WCSU Division of Graduate Studies will hold a commencement ceremony at 7 p.m. Friday in the Feldman Arena of the William O’Neill Athletic and Convocation Center on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Ext. Graduate students eligible to receive their master’s or doctoral degrees in January, May or August of this year and their guests are invited; a reception will follow. WCSU will hold its undergraduate commencement ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Sunday in the Webster Bank Arena at Harbor Yard, 600 Main St., Bridgeport. Former Gov. M. Jodi Rell will deliver the commencement address. For more information, call 203-837-8800 or click here

The WCSU Solo and Ensemble Festival will enable music students from ages 11 to 18 to sing and perform for WCSU’s music faculty Saturday in the Veronica Hagman Concert Hall at the Visual and Performing Arts Center on the university’s Westside campus.

The event is open to all piano, band, orchestra, jazz and choral students from fifth-grade through high school seniors. Students will prepare a solo or small ensemble (up to 13 players) of their choosing to be performed live. Students will receive feedback and have the opportunity to earn awards for outstanding performances. The cost is $10 per student, per entry, with no limit on the number of entries. WCSU will host a 7:30 p.m. Saturday planetarium show, followed by telescope viewing of the sky from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m., at the Westside Observatory and Planetarium on the Westside campus. The event is free and open to the public. For information, call 203-837-8672 or visit www.wcsu.edu/starwatch.

WCSU will host the ninth annual Lyme Disease Conference and Health Fair in the Ballroom of the Westside Campus Center on the university’s Westside campus. The event will begin at 1 p.m. May 12 with an integrative medicine workshop conducted by Drs. William Lee Cowden and Eva Sapi. At 7 p.m., Dr. Richard Horowitz will speak, followed by the presentation of the Courage in Advocacy Award to Lyme Disease Association President Pat Smith.
