WCSU In Danbury To Present Diverse Musical Performances This Spring

DANBURY, CONN. – Concert and recital offerings at Western Connecticut State University at its Danbury campus this spring will range from jazz to piano, and from choral to symphonic bands.

The performances by WCSU faculty, students and guest artists will take place at Veronica Hagman Concert Hall of the Visual and Performing Arts Center.

The center is located on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Ext., Danbury.

On the schedule are:

  • Jazz Festival: 7 p.m., Thursday, March 31, through Saturday, April 2. WCSU jazz faculty and select student groups will perform Thursday, March 31. Joe Lovano will be the guest performer with the WCSU Jazz Orchestra in concert on Friday, April 1. Kenny Garrett and his quintet will play on Saturday, April 2.
  • Piano Studio Recital: 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 6.
  • Opera Ensemble: “The Merry Widow” by Franz Lehar, 8 p.m., Friday, April 8, and Saturday, April 9; and 2 p.m., Sunday, April 10. MainStage Theatre. Directed by Margaret Astrup.
  • Pianist Alexander Kobrin: 5 p.m., Saturday, April 9.
  • “Night at the Opera”: 5:30 p.m., Saturday, April 9.   • WSCU Chamber Singers: 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 19. Singers conducted by Kevin Jay Isaacs. Concert choir conducted by Cory Ganschow.
  • "Saxophestivus": 3 p.m., Sunday, April 24. The WCSU Saxophone Orchestra and Saxophone Quartets will perform.
  • Percussion Ensemble: 3 p.m., Sunday, May 1. Conducted by David Smith.
  • Experimental Music Ensembl e : 8 p.m., Monday, May 2. Conducted by Fernando Jimenez.
  • Symphonic Band: 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 4. Conducted by Timothy Wiggins.
