Plans are for WCSU students and staff to volunteer for local organizations by working at raking, trimming, weeding, painting, cleaning offices, washing fire trucks, moving books, working with animals and picking up trash.

“The goal of the event is to help the community, to recognize WCSU students and their commitment to community, and to create an awareness of the opportunity and the value of volunteerism as part of a college education,” said Dr. Walter Cramer, WCSU dean of students, in a statement.

More than 30 organizations will be receiving help from students and staff, including the Alternative Center of Excellence (ACE), Danbury Ambulance, the Office of Public Works, the Department of Children and Families, Hayestown School, the Regional Hospice Center and Stadley Rough School.

“Many of our students arrive at Western understanding the value of volunteerism. Many more learn about it here and make it a part of their lives,” Cramer adds.

WCSU organizations and athletic teams have pledged support as well, ranging from both the men's and women's lacrosse teams to the Education Club and many others.
