WestConn To Host Lecture On Human Trafficking

DANBURY, Conn. -- The New Haven-based nongovernmental organization Love 146 will present a free lecture called “Voices of the Voiceless: A Lecture on Human and Sex Trafficking” in Danbury as it shines a spotlight on domestic and international human and sex trafficking.

The lecture, which is open to the public, will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in Room 102 of Warner Hall on the Western Connecticut State University Midtown campus, 181 White St.

Human trafficking occurs every day all across the country, according to Love 146. The U.S. State Department estimates more than 15,000 men, women and children are trafficked into the United States each year.

Love 146 was formed after its co-founders went on an exploratory trip to Southeast Asia in 2002 to get a better understanding of how they could serve in the struggle against human trafficking. While in Thailand, they encountered a child used for trafficking and numbered 146. The organization seeks to combat the issue of child sex slavery and exploitation through prevention, after care and research programs. For more information on the group, visit its website .
