Workshops Offered For Small Business Owners At Danbury Library

DANBURY, Conn. – Several organizations have joined forces to offer free workshops for owners of small businesses or nonprofits at the Danbury Public Library, 170 Main St.

The organizations are the Danbury Library, SCORE, Savings Bank of Danbury, CityCenter Danbury, Danbury Area Computer Society, Danbury Hackerspace, and the City of Danbury’s Office of Economic Development. All workshops are Monday evenings.

The programs are:

  • Nov. 2: Bill Brimmer, franchise consultant with FranNet CT & RI and attorney Cliff Enico will present “Thinking about Starting a Business? What about a Franchise?” The program will be from 5:30-7 p.m.
  • Nov. 16: Robert Clark, managing principal of Lucid Pointe, LLC, will present “New Developments in Constant Contact. Targeted at current or returning users of constant contact, the session will discuss designing for mobile devices and take a look at some new and not-yet-widely released features of the tool. The program will be from 6-7 p.m.
  • Nov. 30: “Legal Issues of Social Media” Attorney Cliff Enico will help answer questions about the rules that apply when businesses engage in social activities online, such as, can you use someone else’s Facebook page without their permission, can employers restrict your employee’s social media activities and do you have to charge sales tax when selling something on a social media website. The program will be from 6-7 p.m.
  • Dec, 14: Participants will first view a video presentation produced by the Pro Bono Partnership entitled “Starting a Nonprofit: Upsides, Downsides and Alternatives.” Following the video, attorneys Maurice Segall, director of the New York and Fairfield County Pro Bono Partnership organization and Carlton Chen from the Matthew Dallas Gordon law firm, will discuss the relevant issues affecting the operation and governance of nonprofits and answer audience questions. The program will be from 6-7 p.m.
