Every year, 14 senior Yale men are selected to be in the Whiffenpoofs.

Founded in 1909, the "Whiffs" began as a senior quartet that met for weekly concerts at Mory's Temple Bar, the famous Yale tavern.

Today, the group has become one of Yale's most celebrated traditions. Made famous by their signature "Whiffenpoof Song," (which has since been covered by artists like Elvis Presley, Bing Crosby and Rudy Vallee), the 'Whiffs' carry forward their century-old tradition each year with more than two hundred performances in such venues as Carnegie Hall, Broadway's Lincoln Center and the Rose Bowl.

The group has been featured on television shows such as NBC's "The Sing Off," "The West Wing," "The Today Show," "60 Minutes," "Gilmore Girls," "Jeopardy!," "Saturday Night Live," and "Glee."

The group is getting ready to embark on a three-month world tour (which last year included stops in Paris, London and Rome, as well as Budapest, Tel Aviv, Delhi, Melbourne and Tokyo).

Opening the show for the Whiffenpoofs will be Danbury's own Martini Glass A Cappella. Comprising 13 women from the greater Danbury area, the group began singing together in 2004 at Danbury High School.

Martini Glass has carried on its tradition of a cappella music for more than eleven years. Many of their members are current students or alumni from Western Connecticut State University.

Tickets cost $25 and can be purchased online at www.thepalacednabury.com, by telephone at 203-794-9944 between 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., daily, and at the box office starting one hour before showtime on the day of the event.

The Palace Danbury Theatre is at 165 Main St.
