Danbury Runners Invited To Unique Sequential Number Event

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Fairfield County runners have the opportunity to join a once-in-a-lifetime event Saturday morning.

Race director Marty Schaivone, who produces events throughout Fairfield County, plans to stage a 9-kilometer race Saturday, Dec. 13 in Stratford. The race will begin at 10:11 a.m. The unusual starting time allows the race to complete a rare numerological sequence of 9-10-11-12-13-14.  Race information and registration is online.

“I tried to get a race together last year on 11-12-13, but I couldn’t put it together in time,’’ Schaivone said. “The New York Road Runners have been doing similar races. I’m not the only creative lunatic.”

Adding to the unique features of the race will be a brunch catered by Taco Loco with breakfast tacos, hash browns, fruit salad, muffins, bagels, chips, Bloody Marys, hot chocolate, coffee and tea.

The brunch is contingent on response from runners. Schaivone said the race will refund part of the entry fee if a minimum number requirement is not met. There is no race day registration.

“People can run, walk, whatever they decide,’’ Schaivone said. “It’s the historic implications for the next 20 years. That’s the deal. Anyone who runs it this year will get free entry in a race in 20 years.”

The 9k (5.6 miles) will be run through the Lordship section of Stratford. Several of Schaivone's other races are included as part of the course, such as the MADD Dash 5k and a September distance event in which runners can compete on courses of 10, 20 or 30 kilometers.
