The race begins at 10 a.m. at Tarrywile Park and finishes at nearby Immaculate High School. The race benefits Tuesday's Children's First Responders Alliance Program, a program that works with surviving 9-11 first responders and their families, as well as the the Candace Lee Williams Scholarship Fund at Immaculate High School.
The race begins at the park next to a memorial tree planted in September 2001. There will be a post-race party with with live entertainment, awards, food, a raffle, and fun for kids and adults.
The first 250 runners are guaranteed T-shirts, water bottles, and bags. Registration is $30 and is open now on Active.com. The 5K presenting sponsor is Epec Technologies.
It is a USATF certified 5K. Teams are also encouraged the register for a discounted rate.
There is also a fun run for kids at 11:15 at Immaculate. The Winged Run is a race where all the kids participating will have the opportunity to decorate wings to then wear in the run. Three60 Partners is sponsoring the kids run. All kids will receive medals. Registration is $10.
Williams was aboard American Airlines flight No. 11 when it crashed during the terrorist attacks on the United States on Sept. 11, 2001. She was a student at Northeastern University in Boston and was graduate of Immaculate High School.
The race is put on by three friends of Williams. Alyson Halas, Amy Martins, Kate Resendes, Lauren Memoli, and Beth Keane, along with a new team of volunteers, organize the event, which took a one-year hiatus last summer because several women on the organizing committee were having babies.
One new addition to this year’s race is a stroller category. The top three women and top three men who finish the race pushing a stroller will win medals.
