The Meatball Mile for MSA is a 1-mile run in which the runner who comes closest to his or her predicted finish will win a $1,000 gift card to the mall. The race starts at 9 a.m. It is sponsored by Mima's Meatballs and More.

“We thought this would be a terrific event because it doesn’t matter how fast you are,’’ said Megan Searfoss, co-owner of Ridgefield Running Company and one of the event co-sponsors. “You can run a 6 minute mile or a 12 minute mile, and you’ll still have a chance to win.”

Runners submit a predicted finishing time when they register for the race. No watches or GPS devices will be permitted.

The winner of the race will also receive a $250 gift card. Runners who donate $20 will be entered into a raffle to win a free pair of Asics running shoes from Ridgefield Running Company. The fastest child age 8-and-under will receive a meet and greet with Santa at the mall.

The race supports the Rex Griswold Foundation Cure MSA. MSA is a neurodegenerative disease affecting the central and autonomic nervous systems. Its symptoms are similar to Parkinson’s disease, but progresses more rapidly and is more limited in treatment options.

Griswold is a former runner and resident of Ridgefield. The foundation was created last year by former colleagues and friends of Griswold at Nestle Waters North America in Stamford.

After the race, runners are invited to the mall to enjoy food from Mima’s Meatballs and More in the mall.

Registration is $25. Click here for more details and to register for the race.
