The race supported the Rex Griswold Foundation Cure MSA. MSA is a neurodegenerative disease affecting the central and autonomic nervous systems. Its symptoms are similar to Parkinson’s disease, but progresses more rapidly and is more limited in treatment options.

Griswold is a former runner and resident of Ridgefield. The foundation was created last year by former colleagues and friends of Griswold at Nestle Waters North America in Stamford.

In the race, runners predicted their time for the mile to the hundreths of a second. Runners were not permitted to wear a watch, GPS or any other device that might help them determine their time.

Stefan Borowski of New Canaan won the $1,000 mall gift certificate by running his mile in 6:09:28. He predicted a time of 6:09:88, a difference of six-tenths of a second. Kathleen Flaherty of Newington predicted 13:23.79 and finished in 13:24:57, a difference of .78. Piper Kean, a 6-year-old from Ridgefield, finished in 9:34:14 and predicted 9:33.1, a difference of 1.1 second.

Overall race winner Will Bordash finished in 4:33:63. He donated his $250 winner’s gift certificate to the Rex Griswold Foundation. Mary Zengo of Wilton won the women’s division in 5:33.07.

The race was sponsored by Mima’s Meatballs & More, which has a location at the mall. Megan Searfoss of Ridgefield Running Company, another race sponsor, served as the race director. Mima's provided meatballs and more for runners after the race.
