WestConn Coffeehouse Hosts Local Musicians, Open Mic Series

DANBURY, Conn. -- Western Connecticut State University’s Midtown Coffeehouse will feature a weekly 8 p.m. open mic, followed by a 9 p.m. feature performance, on Thursdays in Alumni Hall on the Midtown campus in Danbury.

The performances are free and open to the public. Donations to help sustain the coffeehouse are accepted.

Performances scheduled at the coffeehouse for this fall include:

  • On Sept. 12: Nicole Thompson, a repeat performer at the Midtown Coffeehouse, will perform original songs.
  • On Sept. 19: Matt Sucich will play selections from his debut album. Sucich supported Levon Helm at his Midnight Ramble in Woodstock, N.Y.
  • On Sept. 26: WCSU alumna Amanda Forker will perform for the second time at the Midtown Coffeehouse. Since graduating from WCSU, she has performed regularly at West Hartford’s Professional Theater, Playhouse on Park.
  • On Oct. 3, contemporary country band Post No Bills, which features two jazz majors and a voice major -- all former WCSU students -- will perform.
  • Oct. 10: Contemporary folk/pop artists Edwin and Juan, with accompaniment from Anthony Asmar of WCSU.
  • Oct. 17: Aaron and Andrew
  • Oct. 24: The WCSU Jazz Ensemble.
  • Nov. 7: Connecticut’s top Brazilian musician, Arildo de Souza.
  • Dec. 5: Martini Glass, an a cappella group made up entirely of female WCSU students, alumnae and students from Danbury High School.
