DANBURY, Conn. -- Community HealthCorps members serving with the Community Health Center Association of Connecticut in Danbury helped lead efforts to celebrate National Health Center Week 2015 in partnership with the Connecticut Institute for Communities Inc.

Gerrard Jolly, NACHC national director of the Community HealthCorps, headlined the celebration, both of the 20th anniversary of the Community HealthCorps with Community HealthCorps Members serving with the Community Health Center Association of Connecticut, as well as celebrating National Health Center Week 2015 in partnership with the Connecticut Institute For Communities Inc.

This event served as part of a weeklong campaign (Aug. 9-15) to raise awareness about the mission and accomplishments of America’s Community Health Centers. CHCACT is celebrating the Community HealthCorps program’s 20-year legacy of leveraging national service opportunities to create healthy futures in partnership with Connecticut Community Health Centers.

The event was organized by current Community HealthCorps members, who engaged local youth and their families in a variety of activities focused on being active and living a healthy lifestyle. A short program featured a host of state and local leaders, as well as representatives from the National Association of Community Health Centers, CHCACT and Community HealthCorps, speaking on the impact made possible through the partnership of Community Health Centers and national service.

The program was followed by a check presentation formally announcing CHCACT as a 2015-16 Community HealthCorps Program Site. CIFC’s Greater Danbury Community Health Center is one of 16 community health centers in Connecticut and over 1,200 health centers in rural and urban neighborhoods across America.

Program participants included: Jolly; state Rep. David Arconti; Jody Trestman, director of constituent services for U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty; and James H. Maloney, president and CEO of the Connecticut Institute For Communities Inc.
