Runners in the annual Memorial Day 5K will start and finish at the City Center Green in downtown Danbury. The race begins at 8:45 a.m. and makes it way down and back on Main Street. Runners will be cheered on by the crowds gathering for the parade, which begins on the same route when the race has concluded.

Registration is $30. Race day registration begins at 7 a.m.

Marchers in the parade will step off at 9:30 a.m. from the intersection of Main and Rose streets at the northern end of downtown. The parade marches down Main Street and finishes at Rogers Park.

A service in the Rose Memorial Garden at the southern end of the park will follow the parade about 11:30 a.m.

The Memorial Day parade will celebrate Danbury's diversity, with politicians, bands, ethnic dancers, civic groups, police officers, firefighters and kids taking part.

Spectators are invited to line Main Street throughout the parade route.

The 5K race benefits Building Homes for Heroes, which helps severely wounded and disabled veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan build homes for their families and rebuild their lives.

Runners can register at www.hitekracing.com or through CityCenter Danbury, 186 Main St., Danbury, CT 06810 or by calling 203-792-1711.
