Forbes profiled Selkowitz in a recent story titled "Mad Man With A Plan." He was the man put in charge of the nearly one century old idea of putting $100 million into Mill River Park to create a central park in Stamford. The park opened in May 2013.
"If any project needed a high-energy pitchman with a golden Rolodex, this one did," according to the Forbes story. "Stamford had essentially given up on the river–a dumping ground for old television sets, mattresses, even a grenade. When a big storm hit, it would flood over concrete retaining walls and bridges, shutting off the business district from the city’s west side. And the 8-acre park along the banks had become a haven for drug users and prostitutes."
Selkowitz was not a "big 'nature' guy" but that he saw the project as "a marketing challenge," according to the Forbes article.
"In that way he’s a good example of older, driven executives and entrepreneurs (even well-known billionaires) who channel their intensity and skills into charitable projects," according to the Forbes article.
