Hot Dog! It's A Snow Day In Danbury

DANBURY, Conn. — Danbury's Kristin Wolfe looks forward to snowstorms like the one on Friday — but Zara, her 7-year-old long-haired German shepherd, enjoys them even more.

“Zara absolutely loves going out in the snow. Her eyes close and she will just want to lay out in the snow all day," said Wolfe, who enjoyed snowball fights during her middle school years outside of Chicago.

German shepherds and mountain dogs like snow. "They have very thick coats and tend to be work dogs in the winter," she said.

Zara will be in and out all day. "We have a fenced-in yard and woods in our backyard, which is just under an acre. Walking in the snow makes her so happy, she is extra playful," Wolfe said.

Ironically, Wolfe, who teaches at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, was already off work on Friday for spring break.

Wolfe finds the time to reflect on snow days. "You are forced to slow down and take a step back."

Anywhere from 3 to 5 inches of accumulation is expected across Fairfield County on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
