Landscaper Digs In To Give Back To Danbury Veterans

DANBURY, Conn. – When local landscaper Brian Kolwicz heard about the need for landscaping at the Vietnam Memorial at Rogers Park in Danbury, he knew that he had a chance to donate his time as it was “the right thing to do.”

“The veterans have sacrificed so much for our freedoms, past, present and future,” said Kolwicz. “This was my way of saying thank you.”

Kolwicz donated 100 percent of the labor, but when it came to the rest of the funding for the project, he knew he had to find a way that was as cost effective as possible for the veterans. Local businesses offered to help out with the project by offering discounted rates on materials. Those businesses were Planter’s Choice in Newtown, Bethel Masonry and Dom’s Garden Center in Danbury.

Mayor Mark Boughton expressed great appreciation of the work Kolwicz put into the Vietnam Memorial.

“To see this philanthropic spirit in our local residents and business owners is what makes Danbury such a special community,” said Boughton. “As the most business-friendly city in Connecticut, it gives us pride to see a business go above and beyond for our city and our veterans.”

The Vietnam Memorial, dedicated in 1988, is the host of the annual Vietnam Ceremony presented by the Danbury Council of Veterans each spring.
