Paul Mitchell School To Cut Hair To Benefit Sandy Hook

DANBURY, Conn. – Students and staff at Paul Mitchell The School in Danbury will do what they do best Monday and cut hair to benefit those affected by the Newtown tragedy. With many Newtown residents in the Paul Mitchell community, the school decided to host the Cut-a-Thon to give back.

“We do have students that are residents of Newtown and were closely affected,” Caroline Louis, an employee at the school, said. “We have a lot of moms here and a lot of parents, so this was close to our hearts.”

The Cut-a-Thon will be held 4 to 7 p.m., and all proceeds will go to the Sandy Hook Support Fund sponsored by Newtown Savings Bank. Haircuts cost $10 and will be done by students and staff members.

The Paul Mitchell beauty school was on lockdown the day of the Newtown shooting, and the impact of the tragedy drove people to figure out a way to help the victims and their families. Louis said the school tries to help out after any major disaster in the area and places a strong emphasis on using hairstyling and cosmetology skills to give back in the school’s culture.

“We want the students to learn you won’t move forward if you don't give back,” Louis said. “This is the best thing that we can do for people as hairdressers.”
