Remembering Ridgefield Children's Author Maurice Sendak On His Birthday

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- Maurice Sendak, the legendary children's author who was born on this day, was beloved in his hometown of Ridgefield and across the globe.

Today, June 10, is Maurice Sendak's birthday.

And the Twitterverse and other parts of the Internet sprung up with tributes for the writer and illustrator on his birthday.

Sendak was born June 10, in 1928, in Brooklyn, N.Y. and died May 8, 2012, at the age of 83 at Danbury Hospital.

Ridgefield honored him this year when his most memorable character, the Wild Thing from his most famous book, "Where the Wild Things Are," led a book brigade to the newly renovated Ridgefield Library.

In honor of Sendak's birthday, the Connecticut State Library ‏Tweeted @LibraryofCT a memorable quote from the illustrator and writer: “A book is really like a lover. It arranges itself in your life in a way that is beautiful.”
