1. Cleaner Lines-Contemporary Feel Today’s kitchens have simple slab cabinets in glossy thermofoils or ecofriendly veneers.  Straight edge countertops and floating shelves also exemplify the crisp, clean lines of today’s contemporary style.

2. Double Up U-shaped counters and double islands are trending now and a great option if you have the space for it.  Either dedicating one island as a prep space and the other as dining space or double islands that are completely free of prep sinks and cooktops are becoming popular.  If you have a larger kitchen space the double islands create a communal space for family meals and also a space where guests will naturally gather for parties and entertaining.

3. White Wins The white kitchen still reigns supreme here in on the Gold Coast.  White cabinets and countertops for kitchens and baths are a classic and safe choice and the most requested color scheme for new homes and remodels.

4. Color Contrast While you can’t go wrong with an all white kitchen or bath, many clients want some color or contrast in their space.  Light gray to black cabinets offer a nice contrast while also staying within a neutral palette.  Islands, cabinetry surrounding the range, or a focal point such as a china cabinet or butler’s pantry, are excellent choices for secondary color.  A contrasting color or material on island countertops, such as absolute black honed granite with other countertops in Carrera white marble is another option to provide contrast.

5. Opulence Polished brass fixtures, over-scaled crown moldings, very large or “floating” hammock style bathtubs, metallic tiles, towel warmers and chef stoves are big hits for 2014.  We spend many hours in our homes; so luxurious surroundings and the little extras can bring big satisfaction.

More important than any trend is a beautiful, functional space and the peace of mind that a quality remodeling and design team can bring.  Be sure to consider Mr. Handyman’s top-rated, award-winning professional team for your next remodeling project.
