The award will be given at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at the Student Center Theater on WestConn's midtown campus.
Bloomer is founder, president and CEO of TBICO, which is short for The Bridge to Independence and Career Opportunities. Since 1993, the nonprofit has helped to provide employment preparation and career transition services to women throughout Northern Fairfield and Southern Litchfield counties. TBICO provides training and support to help women achieve economic self-sufficiency. All of its services are free.
The award is part of WestConn's celebration of Women’s History Month and women's contributions to literature, film, history and the community. This year marks the centennial anniversary of the Women’s Suffrage March in Washington, D.C.
All students, alumni, staff, board members, friends and supporters of TBICO are welcome to attend the program, which will include videos, slide shows, music and presentations. Many TBICO students and graduates will speak in honor of Bloomer. To get on the program, email Darla Shaw at Shawd@wcsu.edu.
