According to a press release, this event is held to recognize the homeless in the community and to change how business is done in local communities when it comes to expediting outcomes and removing obstacles for individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

This event is held in connection with the City of Danbury’s Housing Partnership.

Organizers at the event will provide a hot breakfast and lunch, winter coats and clothing, flu shots, dental care, and eye exams. In addition, more than 60 area agencies will have information available for residents about mental health services, housing, family and youth services, employment and more. “It’s such a wonderful day for our homeless residents in Greater Danbury and they really feel cared for by our community,” says Dawn Wilson, a member of the Project Homeless Planning Committee. “Throughout the day, I often hear comments from the attendees like ‘thank you so much’, ‘what a great event’ and ‘thank you for treating us with respect and kindness.’ It means a lot to us.”

The 2013 Point In Time homeless count identified 174 people who were homeless in the Greater Danbury area. More households were at risk of homelessness. During last year’s event, more than 200 individuals and families were served.
