Cheshire resident Thomas Halleran, 36, has pleaded guilty in Hartford federal court to one count of possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of, heroin or fentanyl for his role in the fatal incident.

On July 25 last year, members of the Southington Police Department and paramedics responded to a Southington residence, where there was an unresponsive 31-year-old old woman on the floor, who was promptly pronounced dead. While investigating the overdose, police seized five folds of heroin, fentanyl, two empty folds, other drug paraphernalia and the victim’s cellphone.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the State of Connecticut determined that the victim’s death was caused by the combined effects of fentanyl, acetyl fentanyl, methadone, alprazolam and alcohol. Analysis of the seized cellphone found that Halleran had been supplying heroin and fentanyl to his victim for approximately six weeks, and that he made a delivery the night before her death.

Halleran is due to be sentenced in Hartford federal court on Sept. 21, when he will face up to 20 years in prison. Halleran remains detained, pending his sentencing.
