John Durham, the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced the sentencing of New Haven resident Treyvon “Joker” Battle, 27, in District Court in Hartford to 57 months of imprisonment, followed by three years supervised release after pleading guilty to one count of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a previously convicted felon in February.

According to court documents and statements made in court, on July 31 last year, Battle attempted to flee from a rented truck when police in New Haven conducted a traffic stop on Ella T. Grasso Boulevard. While fleeing from officers, Battle was caught discarding a weapon before he was apprehended. Investigators proceeded to recover a semiautomatic 9mm handgun loaded with 18 rounds of ammunition and an “obliterated serial number.”

Battle had previously been convicted in August 2010 on felony weapons charges, when he was sentenced to a term of 10 years of incarceration, with five years to serve, followed by five years of probation.

Durham noted that “it is a violation of federal law for a person previously convicted of a felony offense to possess a firearm or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce.”
