Original story: FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Interstate 84 is closed in New York State from the Connecticut border to the Pennsylvania border Wednesday morning as a result of the snowstorm.
The closure, until further notice, was ordered by Gov. Andrew Cuomo and includes both passenger and commercial vehicles. Any cars on the road will be ticketed.
“I urge all New Yorkers to stay off the roads and monitor news and weather reports throughout the day for updates,” Cuomo said in a statement.
The closure is "soft," which means there are no barriers set up at the border, although motorists are urged to leave the highway at Exit 1 in Danbury.
In Connecticut, Gov. Dannel Malloy was telling residents to stay home and to avoid unnecessary travel.
"With heavy snow falling across the state and a mix of sleet and freezing rain on the way, I am asking residents to avoid unnecessary travel. In addition, I have instituted a soft ban on tandem trucks on our interstate highways,” Malloy said.
The soft ban, he added, is working in conjunction with similar bans in New York and New Jersey.
